Australia is one of the biggest consumers of clothing in the world per capita, with over 300,000 tonnes of clothing waste annually. Swapping is a circular economy action to reduce waste, divert textiles from landfill and have fun doing it.
What if you could refresh your wardrobe, without spending a cent? Join Circular Economy Club Sydney for our first clothes swap at Swap in the City!
Clothes swaps are the place to bring your beloved quality clothing so that they go to new homes where they will be loved and cherished. And in return, you hopefully get stylish preloved pieces to freshen up your wardrobe.
HOW IT WORKS:
6-6:30pm: Arrive at Swap in the City with up to 5 pieces of clothing to be swapped. The team will do a quick quality check (no holes, marks, etc – more details on this below) and give you your swapping tokens (1 item = 1 token). While you wait for the formalities to start, you’ll have the chance to mingle with other attendees and enjoy drinks & light refreshments.
6:30pm: A quick welcome and introduction. Nina Gbor, the founder of Eco Styles, will tell us about the new Swap in the City location and the impact that clothes swaps have on slowing down textile waste and building community.
6:40pm: Let the swap begin! You’ll be invited to browse the clothing racks and redeem your swap tokens for your newly found treasures.
What can I swap?
You’re invited to bring up to 5 good quality items:
• Pants, skirts, tops, jumpers, coats, jumpsuits, shirts, shoes, bags, shorts, jackets, blazers, scarves, hats, dresses, sunglasses, jewellery and accessories
• Items can be retro, vintage, handmade or from good quality brands.
• We encourage ALL SIZES to participate in the swap. The swap is for all genders so we welcome clothing designed for male, female, adaptive and all body types.
What can’t I swap?
We want everyone to go home with new clothing item(s) they love, so we have the following rules for our clothes swap. The following items will not be accepted:
• Damaged or dirty clothes: no tears, holes or stains please.
• Ultra-fast fashion or poor quality brands: please no Shein or Temu items.
If you wouldn’t give it to a friend, please don’t bring it to swap!
