Clothes Swap Party with Maroondah City Council

  • Central Ringwood Community Centre Bedford Park, Rosewarne Lane Ringwood, VIC, 3134 Australia (map)

You’re invited to our free CLOTHES SWAP PARTY!

This sustainable fashion event is a chance to style-hack your wardrobe. How? You bring top quality clothes and accessories that you no longer need to the swap collection pool. Then you ‘shop’ and take home others’ fab garments in exchange!

Zero Waste Victoria, Clothes Swap & Style and Central Ringwood Community Centre have teamed up to create this soiree for fashionistas who love great clothes but hate fashion waste.

Why? Because fashion waste sucks and Australia sadly sends more wearable fashion to landfill than nearly every other country in the world. This can change, starting with you, by swapping quality clothes you no longer wear.

This clothes swap is extra special because it will be filmed as part of an upcoming episode of ABC’s War on Waste. We would love for you to join us and help inspire the country to put an end to Australia’s fashion overconsumption crisis by engaging in the circular fashion economy to update your wardrobe.

This special event will feature live music, free drinks and nibbles. A team of upcycling sewers will be on hand for simple clothing alterations, to adjust that perfect find to make it even better for you.

Because of filming requirements, you must be over 18 to participate in this event.

Note: The film crew are working independently of the event organisers and will select what is filmed at their discretion. Therefore clothes swap participants should not have expectations of being filmed for the series. If the production team wishes to film a person, they will explicitly request the individual's participation.

HOW THE SWAP WORKS

1. Bring 1 – to 5 (maximum) items of clothing or accessories to add to the swap collection pool.

2. Clothing is checked in, then sorted onto racks and tables by our team of volunteers.

3. Guests can only begin taking and trying on swap items only after the swap is officially declared open by the host at 6 pm. This will take place after the brief welcome and introduction at the beginning.

SWAP GUIDELINES

  • Clothes brought to the swap MUST be clean, good quality and in good condition: not worn out, faded, pillaged, pongy or damaged. (Good quality also means something you would gift to a friend). Please be mindful and considerate of what other swappers will be happy to receive 😊.

  • We can’t guarantee guests will find their sizes as it depends on what other guests bring; Regardless, accessories are included in the pool, so there will be something for everyone. Therefore, we encourage ALL SIZES to participate in the swap. This swap is for all genders so we welcome clothing designed for male, female, adaptive and all body types.

  • Items to bring: dresses, pants, skirts, tops, jumpers, coats, jumpsuits, catsuits, shoes, bags, scarves, hats, sunnies, jewellery.

  • WHAT NOT TO BRING: we will not accept underwear, pyjamas and overused workout gear. Pyjamas and swimwear might be allowed only if they're brand new with tags.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ITEMS THAT DO NOT MEET THIS CRITERIA CANNOT BE ACCEPTED INTO THE SWAP.
