Ethical Consumption: Talking Clothes, Sustainability and Giving

Join The Australian Red Cross and the Red Cross’s Victorian Youth Advisory Committee for an evening discussing clothes, consumption, sustainability and giving in the lead up to this holiday season. Featuring guest speakers Nina Gbor, Founder and Owner of Eco Styles and Ana Soares, Founder of IFE. Also hear from Red Cross Retail Area Manager, Linda Vogt about the work of our Red Cross shops and how you can give your time.
Free tickets are available via Eventbrite. We invite our guests to bring a non-perishable item with them as a donation to the Red Cross Pantry in lieu of a ticketing fee.


Speakers:

Nina Gbor, Founder and Owner of Eco Styles

As the founder of Eco Styles and also Clothes Swap & Style, Nina Gbor is an award-winning advocate, eco stylist and public speaker who advocates for sustainability in the fashion industry and also global female empowerment. Nina teaches sustainable fashion short courses at RMIT University. She coined the phrase ‘get off the fashion trendmill’ which means individuality should be the premise for consuming clothes, not fashion trends. Nina has a Master’s Degree in International Development. She hosts sustainable fashion clothes swap & restyling workshops as a circular fashion system for reducing fashion waste and to help people evolve to the best version of themselves using style. Nina was awarded Champion of the Year 2018 in the Canberra Women in Business Awards for social impact in sustainability and female empowerment.


Ana Soares
Runs a mentoring service and sustainable business model for single multicultural and young mums.

Ana Soares was born and raised in Brazil. In her youth, Ana was surrounded by community events and social services. Ana is a qualified Primary and Special Needs Teacher and since moving to Australia has pursued her passion to promote community cohesion through music, dance and arts.

Ana now has 3 beautiful children which have changed her approach towards lifestyle, sustainability and social issue. Ana is a Social Worker and Events Coordinator, having worked with organisations such as The Social Studio and Lentil as Anything. Most recently, Ana has founded IFE Products & Community which supports single mums, small business and multicultural projects. IFE focuses on developing a platform to support handcrafted, vegan, sustainable and eco friendly products.

Linda Vogt Red Cross Retail Area Manager

Passionate about sustainable fashion, fundraising and volunteerism, Linda Vogt is a Retail Area Manager at Australian Red Cross, supporting 13 charity shops that sell donated clothing, accessories and homewares to raise funds to support the everyday work of the Red Cross. Linda has over 20 years’ experience in operational, retail and volunteer management with a particular focus on exceeding business targets and achieving positive organisational outcomes through transformational leadership.
Over the past two decades, Linda has led teams of staff and volunteers to exceed set targets and raise much needed funds to support the most vulnerable members of the local community within community, mental health, homeless and humanitarian organisations. In 2015 Linda was the recipient of the Betty Karslake Leadership Award. Linda was one of first volunteer manager mentors for the Volunteering Victoria pilot program in 2016. In 2009 Linda was part of a core volunteer committee who acquired funding and set up the first Fitted for Work boutique in Frankston to support disadvantaged women looking for work.
Linda has qualifications in Fashion, Community Sector Management and Business, Leadership and Human Resources. She is passionate about, and driven by, outcomes underpinned by social justice and she thrives on growing sustainable and self-empowered teams.
Linda has been op shopping since she was 7 years old. Her grandmother introduced her to these amazing treasure troves full of the most beautiful humans who were always willing to chat and offer their support whilst browsing their spaces. She is a creative who loves to cook, sew, knit, spin, crochet, pour candles, make body products; she will have a go at making anything!
